Notice of Race

Event: IOS Round the Island Race
Date: Sunday 9th September 2018
Place: IOS Sailing Club, Marine Parade, Sheerness, Kent ME12 2BE
Organising Authority: IOS Sailing Club

1. Waiver of liability
1.1 IOSSC is providing this race only on the understanding that nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of helms and crews for their own safety and welfare; nor will it make the organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of a boat taking part in the race. The term organisers includes everyone helping to run the race and the event, and includes the organising authority, the race committee, the race officer, patrol boats, beachmasters and any volunteers assisting with the event.
1.2 The safety of a boat and her entire management including insurance shall be entirely the responsibility of the helm racing the boat. Nothing, whether in this Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility. In particular, helms shall: (a) accept full responsibility for their crews and for the seaworthiness and safe navigation of their boats and shall use their own judgment whether to start, continue or retire from the race in the existing or forecast conditions (see RRS 4 Decision to Race); (b) draw the attention of their crews to the risks of racing and to this Waiver of Liability before the start of the race.
1.3 Every boat should be capable of completing the course in whatever conditions are encountered. Particular note should be made of the possibility of being reliant upon your own resources for a protracted period, even returning after dark or in fog.
1.4 The provision of patrol boats does not relieve the helm of his/her responsibilities.
1.5 All craft must have third party liability insurance (min. £2,000,000).
2. The rules
Racing will be governed by the "rules" as defined in the Racing Rules of
Sailing 2017-2020 (RRS), the prescriptions of the RYA, this Notice of Race, except as any of these are changed by the Sailing Instructions and/or by the relevant class rules.
3. Conditions of entry and eligibility
3.1 The race is open to all dinghies, catamarans and sailboards, but any dinghy or catamaran without a Portsmouth Yardstick Number should contact the club before the day of the race to arrange a provisional number. The race is also open to Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs).
3.2 Helms must be 16 or over unless evidence of competence is presented to the OOD.
3.3 The organising authority reserves the right to reject any entry and to limit entries on the day without stating a reason.
3.4 Eligible boats may enter by completing an entry form and sending it, together with the required fee to: I.O.S. Sailing Club, Marine Parade, Sheerness, Kent ME12 2BE by 31st August 2018.
3.5 Alternatively, the entry form may be completed and payment made on the day of the race.
3.6 In the event of the race being cancelled, the organising authority may at its discretion offer a 50% refund of the entry fee.
4. Fees
4.1 £40 per craft pre-entry (before 31st August 2018)

6.3 All competitors shall sign on by posting their personal safety tag in the "I have started" slot of the tally box before going afloat, and shall post their safety tag in the "I have finished" slot of the tally box immediately after finishing.
